One morning last week, the first thing I had to do when I got out of bed was check my bookshelf for one of my favorite books: Jacob Have I Loved by Katherine Paterson. You see, just the night before, when Katherine Paterson came to visit me, the books on my shelves had all been haphazardly tossed about, and Jacob Have I Loved was no where to be found! But here’s proof that I still have it and that it is well loved:
By now you’ve probably figured out that Katherine Paterson did not really come to visit me. It was only a dream, which went something like this:
A group of writers and I were sitting in my bedroom (yes! my bedroom! it was a dream, okay?). We were listening to a speaker discuss writing and the writing life. All of a sudden the speaker’s face became clearer to me, and I gasped!
In my dream, she looked exactly like this picture.
“That’s Katherine Paterson!” I said to the person sitting next to me. “I have to get her to sign my copy of Jacob Have I Loved!” I rushed from my bedroom to my makeshift office area where I keep most of my books. But when I got there I saw that my books lay scattered all over the shelf, thrift-store style. I searched and searched among the chaos, but I could not find my beloved book. I knew it was there. I just couldn’t find it. I was crestfallen.
I went back to the bedroom and told the other writer that I couldn’t find my book. The other writer said, “It’s okay. You’ll meet Katherine again. She can sign your book then.”
“You don’t understand,” I said. “I need her to sign it now. Every time one of my favorite writers comes to my house, I never get them to sign a book for me. Both Christopher Paul Curtis and Kate DiCamillo have been to my house, and I didn’t get my books signed by either one of them. Now I won’t get my book signed by Katherine Paterson either.”
So, you know I woke up thinking, That was weird. Not only did Katherine Paterson not visit my house, but Christopher Paul Curtis and Kate DiCamillo have never visited me either. Duh! But I did dream a few years ago that Kate DiCamillo came to speak at my church. Like my dream about Katherine Paterson feeling so real that I actually had to make sure I still had my book, the dream about Kate visiting my church felt so real that I actually expected to see her in the pulpit the following Sunday! I guess that makes me as weird as my dreams….
Any dream interpreters out there who want to tell me what my weird dreams mean?
Until next time, sweet dreams.
Keep dreaming!!! :)
I love this dream so much. Made me laugh and also made me fantasize about having my favorite writers visit ☺️
